Biography
Ögonblick is a collaboration between David Stiernholm and Ken Peel. David is a composer and multi-instrumentalist who lives in Göteborg, Sweden. Ken produces electronic music and lives in Bristol, England.
Ögonblick’s music is driven by spontaneity – drawing intuitively from our many influences, but Ögonblick is not just about experimentation for the sake of experimentation. Ken and David are seeking to create lyrical, memorable pieces of music that are spirited and enjoyable.
In Swedish, ‘ögon’ means ‘eyes’ and ‘blick’ means ‘gaze’ or ‘glance’. An ögonblick is the amount of time it takes for an eye to gaze, which is really an instant. Our tracks are like snapshots of different ögonblicks; miniature soundscapes that have their own sounds, harmonies, colours, shapes. The plural form of ögonblick is also ögonblick, it can mean one as well as many.
Ögonblick create music based on what they call ‘embryos’, short ideas for tracks, or pieces of tracks, that are exchanged via the internet. Ken or David then add extra parts or sections before returning the files. Upon receiving the returned tracks, David or Ken may add, change or remove sections or parts. When they feel it is complete, it is! Usually they have 2 or 3 embryos in development at any one point in time.
Previous work by David Stiernholm includes experimental music under the name Puie and a unique collaboration with a furniture designer. Previous work by Ken Peel includes the electronica album ‘Marginal’ and the EP ‘The Cloud of Reason’.
