Japan will arrest someone for smoking weed but popularize a literal cannibal who murdered and ate someone by turning them into a celebrity. I swear they have the most fucked up moral system of any country I've seen.

I hope the wrath of god is enacted Japan's legal system for the way they gave this man 10 years of prison over a bag of weed, when other contemporaries in his anime industry were literally getting busted with CP and getting fines and a slap on the wrist for it. Warped beyond belief societal expectations and treatment. Snuffing out arguably the worlds best post-rock/grunge composer because of some fucking weed.

Man, I've been re listening to the Kaiji ost and it's so good. As much as I want more Kaiji, it just won't be the same without his music.

So stupid he has to spend so much time in jail for marijuana. But hasn't he been released? The Death Note OST's are godlike, and anime needs more of his music.

he is not freed. japan has fucked him for many years and he will never be able to work in japan again. how will he get money to move to america? hideki taniuchi is royally fucked and is going to have to live like Kaiji when he finally gets out of jail, not even exaggerating. fuck Japan's shitty drug policy, fuck anyone in the world who thinks smoking marijuana makes you less of a person. Seriously.

If you have valid proof he has been released, well I would change my tune. But I do not think he is released yet, or if so it was not publicized widely. Someone should update the wikipedia article at the very least. It is pathetically smaller than most stupid "celebs" and he is too talented to be a footnote in society

Not claiming to have proof, just read it somewhere and was hoping it was true. A lot of Japan's policies and ideas are eye-roll inducing. As great as the country is, stuff like this is just laughable and irritating. So many of them really think weed will ruin someone's life. Ignorance.

Think of america today. more than half the country still stigmatizes, (both legally and illegally) marijuana, in the broadest sense of the term. even in states where MJ is legal, many people are against it. Japan is very old fashioned especially when it comes to their government. There's no way such ideals will be prevelant in Japan until 100 years from now. Yet many know it, in Japan, and live thier lives as such regardless. such is the beautiful bittersweet world we live in. Free hideki taniuchi, the composer of death note and kaiji. a genius of musical composition especially for the 2010s era. sadly it is almost over although he influenced it SOOOO much.

Think about it, Taniuchi is still in jail and any of his assets from previous endeavors will be set for bail, legal costs, etc. which is an arm and a leg for most people. He will be broke as I am when he gets out and have to get a min wage job which will be hard for him to even acquire in Japan due to discrimination, which he doesn't deserve. he NEEDS to move to America to further pursue his musical career because in Japan he will be labeled a degenerate POS and not hired for anything. His music deserves to be heard and as of today he hasnt maxe a new composition in 7+ years, he most likely has not even touched an instrument in jail. that is absolute devastation to me. For marijuana...it just seems unreal to me.
