Biography
We are no strangers to 3 Headed Dog. One of the bands we have championed from the get go, 3 Headed Dog is comprised of David Aguirre (formerly of Razorback) on guitars and vocals, Danny Gonzales (formerly of Lokomotiv) on bass, and Wolf Gemora (formerly of Wolfgang) on drums. Their music is a mixture of the hard driving rock ‘n’ roll of their previous bands, but with the added grit and attitude of punk.
3 Headed Dog’s roots can be traced back to Lokomotiv; Gemora, Aguirre, and Gonzales’ previous band together. When Lokomotiv dissolved in 2007, David Aguirre and Danny Gonzales continued to play music together while Gemora took a break from music. In 2009, they asked Wolf Gemora to join the band once again and, in changing their name to 3 Headed Dog, established themselves as one of Philippine hard rock’s best power trios.
The last time we wrote something about 3 Headed Dog here in Splintr, it was the release of their EP “Evolution Of Dog”. We had nothing but kind words for the EP, which was a perfect encapsulation of what 3 Headed Dog was in song form: fast, loud, and kick-ass.
Just recently, the band released their new single “Ain’t Pretty” (which you can listen to below). While they are still hard at work with their debut album “Maynilad”, it seems that 3 Headed Dog has a lot in store for us in the coming months.
3 Headed Dog is currently gearing up for a Philippine tour in January 2014, so this is a good a time as any to feature 3 Headed Dog as our Cover Artist for the month of December. Watch out for more 3 Headed Dog-related articles in the coming weeks (hopefully with some “Maynilad” updates)!
If there’s one thing that needs to be said, it’s that 3 Headed Dog are one of the last true great Filipino rock ‘n’ roll bands. They may not be based here, but they’re keeping the spirit of pinoy rock alive.
To Dave Aguirre, Danny Gonzales, and Wolf Gemora: thank you for keeping the fire burning. Now go kick some serious ass.
