First time I heard this song was in hot topic haha. Fell in love with it. Probably the only Alexisonfire song I listen to. I find that I don't care for any of the other songs for some reason.

I actually think this song might be sacreligious. Especially if you watch the video. This album seems to have a lot to do with being fed up with things. Being old (Old Crows), Wishing they were still young (Young Cardinals), American gov't (Sons of Privelege), Religion (The Northern). Makes sense. Yes?

The song IS religious (you can't get around it), Alexisonfire is NOT religious. Alexisonfire has actually been receiving a lot of flack because of this song. It seems people are immediately upset by any mention of Christianity, which is pretty narrow minded. If you read interviews with the band, they say that they wanted to pay homage/respects to the roots of the music that they play. Upon researching it themselves they found that their roots go back to songs like 'Roll Jordan', which this song is based off. It is simply a respectful nod to where it all started. You can't change history folks.

It's not religious. Neither are they, strictly. It's based upon a lot of pre-war blues, especially the life of Skip James and essentially what BryanCrossfade said too. I learned this from an interview with George on some site ha. And 'cause I have the book about pre-war blues him and Dallas had been reading when writing this. :)

I actually don't think it's religious in the way it's being taken. The lyrics are a variation of a negro spiritual and so I think they're trying to convey spiritual bondage in an ironic way. Awesome song nonetheless.

Whoa, this track def. jumped out to me upon first listening to this album. This is a beautifully-crafted song. Also, go here and read through the comments, as I did, to get some ideas and stuff about the meaning of the song.
