According to songfacts.com, Empire State of Mind, Part II: Broken Down is Alicia Keys' solo sequel to her earlier collaboration with Jay-Z, Empire State of Mind, the anthem to their hometown New York. Jay-Z was originally scheduled to contribute a new verse to the remake but the rapper does not appear on the final version.
'Empire State Of Mind' was originally a No.2 hit for Jay-Z and Alicia in October 2009 – it was a highly charged, anthemic ode to both the artists' native New York City. Ms Key's beautiful down-tempo version of the song gave her a big No.4 hit in the UK in February 2010.
