Judgement, Fine Day to Exit,

Because fans of non-metal (and most popular) incarnation of the band usually don't understand this kind of music. On the other hand "Serenades" are much weaker, than "Pentecost III" and "The Silent Enigma", production sounds outdated, compositions are pretty average (with few exceptions) and finally vocals have really bad moments there (Darren occasionally sounds like having problems with defecation).

Well, I have a question - did you shit in your pants? Because I suspect, that you enjoyed your vomit above so much (with occasional virgin masturbation during creating of this "opinion"), that some brown mass poured out from your butt. Literally you can just fuck off - I don't have an intention to discuss with anonymous fuckhead, with cringy opinions, creating himself as an expert. + Lifeban of course.

it's not a bad album in any way, even better than MDB's and PL's debut ones, but I still prefer "The Crestfallen" mainly because of better vocal performance (those backing shrieks by Vincent are particularly sick) and more coherent songwriting. "The Sweet Suffering" belongs to the most intense moments of early British doom death, and it's a pity that this release seems to be forever lost, I'd love to hear the song in rawer fashion (the same is for "All Faith is Lost"): https://www.discogs.com/release/2489531-Anathema-The-Sweet-Suffering

I am so happy he got help. I can't imagine Anathema/WS not existing anymore. I hope he can find a bit of peace now his band is coming back together. I saw him with Anneke in the In Parellel world tour and it was the best show of my life.

I tried it, again and again. And I failed. I just can't listen to anything with the same emotional level that I have listening to Serenades, Pentecost III and The Silent Enigma. And I keep reading interviews where the founding members still talk about how they really were "not good" in the old days. Sorry, but you were REALLY GOOD in the old days. The new music is fine, a lot of good stuff. But nothing compares to Serenades, Pentecost and Silent Enigma.

The Silent Enigma is underrated and good, but I'm not sure if Serenades was such a good album that Judgement seems inferior to it. I love Judgement a lot more. Anathema changed their sound and that's a good thing, even though they had certain failures

Then there are 'coincidences' that feel less as if they were deliberately trying to incorporate those elements into the music than the outcome of an emotive immersion in Floyd's music that manifested itself as an influence. "We are just a moment in time" from Shroud of False reminds of the "I can barely define the shape of this moment in time" line from The Final Cut, off the namesake album. That intro's ending itself seems to have been inspired by the one on The Fletcher Memorial Home (note the subtle similarty in there). Being Floyd's darkest album, the guys might have listened to it a lot. Definitely the most Anathemaish of their discography. I even think that the Alternative 4 song drew inspiration from Two Suns in the Sunset, since both (kinda) deal with an apocalyptic sort of world-ending holocaust. In Barriers, the chorus goes "Talking to you from the other side of the wall in my mind". Forgotten Hopes's lyrics own direct correspondence to themes alike ("Hey you, rotting in your

alcoholic shell". Parisienne Moonlight reminds me of A Great Day For Freedom, and Wings of God reminds me of Shine on Your Crazy Diamond. A song whose intro later resounds on the beginnning of Emotional Winter. Cluster One would also come to mind. What else did you people find?

It is quite how amazing how the Pink Floyd influence on their sounds goes beyond the usage of eerie vocal repetitioners, melancholic Gilmourish experimentation, and moaning or mumbling like Waters. All in all, they incorporated these elements obvious ways as well as more subtle ones, towards an ever more original and unique approach to music. One that, as described below, goes beyond any particular genre. It's obvious that Cavanagh brothers (is it how their name is written?) were really impressed by and inspired by Floyd. Even their lyrical world seems to be the same as the most anguished and melancholic of their albums (mainly post The Dark Side of the Moon). It also comes from unexpected places: note how "You can't see me, but I can you" from Re-Connect is oddly reminiscent of the same line from Flaming. A Dying Wish's interlude uses the bass technique employed in One of These Days. That rhythm, the same from Sheep, later appeared on Pulled Under, a song which is hugely inspired..

Through Anathema I discovered Pink Floyd almost 10 years ago, and through Pink Floyd I discovered King Crimson, and through King Crimson other prog rock bands such as Genesis, Camel, VDGG, Jethro Tull and so on. So, thanks Anathema. I still like some of their albums (everything released since A Natural Disaster until Weather Systems) while other albums I consider pretentious and uninteresting, especially their new stuff.

one of the best bands ever. there's a lot of music i've fallen off on over the years, but over the last decade, i have never stopped listening to this band. every album, no matter how old or new, has a special place in my heart. Anathema is forever
