Andrea Bonino was born in Northern Italy in 1969 and has been playing harmonica and guitar since the age of 12. During his teens Andrea was very much inspired by seeing a lot of blues legends play live and listening to a lot of roots blues. Other musical influences included Caribbean music, African music, and other world music, especially from the past. Andrea started sliding with a bottleneck at age of 15, with a strong Son House influence. He later discovered Hawaiian musicians and started sliding on his lap on a nut raised Metal Dobro in 1990. A chance to watch and hear Bob Brozman play live in 1991 was a great inspiration for the years to come.
Andrea has taken part in dozens of projects and bands in Italy, and was very lucky to play with some great musicians playing classic blues and R&B, African music, Reggae, experimental, free improvisation, live music for theatre or performance art, music scores for short films, and has experimented with electronic dub and live electronics.
A self-taught musician, Andrea Bonino is quite proud of having shared the stage with Mississippi blues legend RL Burnside and Jon Morris in 1991, and having Taj Mahal dancing for a couple of minutes to a calypso played on harmonica in the streets of northern Spain in 2002.
Based in Ireland since 2002, Andrea recently bought a National Reso-Phonic squareneck tricone and some home studio gear, and he keeps performing on the streets and in local pubs with different bands. His latest project is a tribute band to John Zorn's MASADA.
