Biography
Andy Warstar is a second wave punk folk and alternative rock musician. He founded the punk band known as Warstars (also Andy Warstar & the Warstars) in 1998. In 2006, Andy Warstar went solo, touring the east coast of Australia. Upon his return to the U.S. in 2008, Andy regrouped Warstars for a brief time, recording numerous albums of "live in the studio" punk rock. Andy Warstar went on hiatus thereafter, but returned in 2010 with multiple live recordings and releases from the Warchives.
The music of Andy Warstar & the Warstars is as often darkly satirical as it is light-hearted and fun. Andy Warstar's solo material has been likened to a cross between Bob Dylan and Sid Vicious, and is influenced by J Mascis, Beck, Bob Dylan, Gibby Haynes, Marilyn Manson, Frank Zappa, Jello Biafra, Paul Leary, Lou Barlow, Donavan, and even James Taylor!
Andy Warstar has set himself apart from mainstream alternative and punk artists by making his entire catalogue available for free in mp3 format on his own website (some being right here on Last FM). The music of Andy Warstar is infused with freedom of expression and rebellious intelligence.
