Aroma di Amore was a Belgian post-punk band formed in the early 1980s, consisting of core members Elvis Peeters (vocals), Fred Angst (guitar), and Lo Meulen (bass). The band is regarded as a significant influence in the history of Belgian rock music, known for their uncompromising and innovative approach to the genre. The group debuted in 1982 and quickly gained attention after reaching the finals of Humo's Rock Rally, a prestigious Belgian music competition. Their first concert took place at the iconic Antwerp venue De Muze. Over the course of their career, Aroma Di Amore released six studio albums, along with numerous singles, compilations, and extended plays, while performing hundreds of shows throughout Belgium and Europe.
Aroma Di Amore was noted for their ability to reinvent their sound across different periods, earning critical acclaim and maintaining a dedicated fan base. Their work was characterized by a fusion of dark, atmospheric melodies and provocative lyrics, which resonated with audiences and critics alike. In 2018, the band was featured in the exhibition Lang Leve de Muziek ("Long Live Music") at Sint-Pietersabdij in Ghent, which celebrated the music of Flanders and the Netherlands. In 2022, they released Zwarte Doos ("Black Box"), a comprehensive reissue box set of their 1980s recordings. That same year, Aroma Di Amore marked the end of their 40-year career with a farewell concert at the Ancienne Belgique (AB) in Brussels.
The band's enduring legacy is reflected in their contribution to the post-wave movement and their impact on the Belgian music scene.
