Ashbel are an Australian post-metal band initially formed on 18 January 2019 by Khoa Anh Pham, Lulu Collard and Jarvis Halfpenny in Melbourne, Victoria.
The band was born out of the idea that noise and music should not only complement each other but to also use noise as another instrument itself. Much of the band's subject matter revolves around cathartic raw expressions of escaping from trauma and its escorts of various malaise, and takes inspiration from heavy music, harsh noise and industrial sounds, as well as free-improvisation; disparate influences range from black metal, Japanese hardcore and grindcore acts like ENDON, Swarrrrm, Stubborn Father, to jazz avant-garde greats Marc Ribot, Patty Waters, Diamanda Galas and tempo-shifts which invoke a Codeine-seque melancholic atmosphere.
The band's debut release, Deluge, was released exactly one year to the date of the band's formation. Following the departure of Jarvis and subsequent inclusion of second guitarist Tristan Jacobson in early 2020 alongside vocalist Mvrk Svd in 2021, the band's next effort, 2022's I Will Never Get Down EP, signaled a heavier direction. On 27 January 2024, Jacobson left the project.
