Biography

There are three bands named Asimov. An alternative rock band from Belgium, a psychedelic/stoner rock band from Portugal and the shoegaze band from Guatemala that just released it's day-view album. The following text is about the Belgian Asimov:

Asimov is back! The rock band from Dendermonde (BE) recorded a new album, “Phantoms”, the follow-up to the untitled debut (°2006 - featuring the single ‘Metron5’).
The past 2 years Asimov had their sparkling melodies surrounded with guitars, electronics, synths, beats and sequencers. New songs were written, arranged, recorded, re-written and re-arranged to the extreme. 11 songs found their way to “Phantoms”. Asimov at its most soulful, diverse and powerful yet.
“We wanted a record we could listen to over and over again, without growing tired of it. So we took our time trying out new stuff and avoid repeating ourselves.” says Erik VH (guitar). Asimov put all their focus on the creation of the new album for 1,5 year. The band started to experiment with sequencers and synthesizers.
“It was our intention to give our songs a majestic yet integer sound, like the ones you hear on Doves’ albums. And combine all that with cold electronics and soulful vocals, style ‘Depeche Mode’”. Listen to songs like ‘Collider’, ‘Officer’ or ‘Bring out the sun’ and you’ll know Asimov isn’t afraid to ignore the past and start over again. The band might have gone through a very creative period, but it wasn’t all sunshine and roses.
“As rock ‘n roll clichés go, things started to change around us,” Pieter DP (vocal) explains “, including relationship break-ups. People we loved and people we didn’t, left but somehow stayed close, whether we liked it or not.” What seemed like an obstacle at first, turned out to their advantage in the end. Many of these recurring events and people had somehow found a way into their songs. “It was as if they haunted us, like phantoms.. So the album title wasn’t too difficult to find!”.
With the new album ready and mastered by Mike Marsh (Oasis, Phoenix, Depeche Mode, Massive Attack) the band is ready again to take on the stage. The past years Asimov built up a reputation of a powerful live band at festivals like Suikerrock, Marktrock, Alive festival, etc. But the band also went abroad touring Brazil, Scotland, Italy and Holland. “Headlining a sold-out Brazilian music festival is exactly the kind of stuff we’d like to do more in the very near future”, Lieven BG (bass) smiles, “Playing live is obviously what we’re meant to do. And with the new pounding stuff we’ve written, there’s just no way of stopping us! ” Like we said: Asimov is back!
