Biography
Away With Vega wrote songs and played shows for about two years before releasing their first independent record in December '04, A Baby Boy Sleeps, an lp cut in Brazil, Indiana with Artisan Recording's Jon Hook (cpt.). With Zack Melton on vocals, Frank Schweikhardt on lead guitar, Burke Sullivan on bass, and Dave Buckler on drums, A Baby Boy Sleeps sold like hotcakes and AWV used their new found confidence to tour and play well received local shows all over the tri-state area.
In spring '05, Buckler left the band and Sullivan found himself in his natural habitat (drums). That summer, the new trio promptly recorded a demo, Get Serious Now!, contributed two songs to a 7" vinyl split with bloomington's Husband&Wife, and continued building their fan base and exposing show goers to a new AWV sound. December '05 found them adding a new member, Kyle Kammeyer on second guitar. Thus changing the trademarked AWV sound once again.
2007 saw Away With Vega slowing to a crawl with the departure of yet another member (Sullivan). After a 10 month coma they had awakened with a new drummer, Stephen Boyd, formerly of Saints Never Surrender (Blood & Ink Records) and a brand new E.P. released in the spring of 2008.
Being in Away With Vega is kinda like being at a birthday party with your birthday friends singing birthday songs then the birthday dude blows out the birthday candles then finally the consumption of the birthday cake. Basically, they sound like Frank holding both of Kyle's arms in one hand and Zack punching him in the back of the head while Stephen talks about the Steelers nonstop.
Away With Vega played their final show on November 22nd of 2008.
