Bata Illic (born 30 September 1939 in Belgrade) is a Serbian schlager singer. Illic studied English and Italian and later worked as a teacher. In 1963, he and his band secured a multi-month engagement at an American club in Bad Kissingen. This was followed by further performances at clubs in Bad Hersfeld, Fulda, and Berlin.
In 1967, Illic recorded his first album. His first chart successes came in 1968 with the songs Mit verbundenen Augen and Schuhe, so schwer wie ein Stein. His greatest hit came in 1972 with Michaela. He appeared on numerous music shows, including the ZDF-Hitparade. The following years also proved very successful for him as a schlager singer. However, his presence in the music scene diminished somewhat in the early 1980s.
Illic experienced a comeback in the 1990s. He continues to appear on radio and television, performing German-language versions of songs by Aznavour, Celentano, and Bacharach, as well as his classic hits.
