Wading into the River Djoliba, the first release by New Hampshire performing artists, the Black Bear Moon Rhythm Ensemble, was released independently in 2008. Featuring original arrangements of traditional Mandinka music, the tracks are performed entirely with traditional instruments such as the tambin (also Fula flute, or fule in Malinké), balafon, djembe and dunun drums, bolon, etc. Arranged and directed by musician Dave Kobrenski, the album is a fitting and respectful tribute to both the musical traditions of the Mandinka people, as well as to the individual teachers/musicians th… read more
