if matt and gordon came back and played Silent Alarm and the self-titled EP in full my maslow's hierarchy would be fulfilled

Gordon not being in the band anymore made me so sad, think it's why I only stick to the albums with him playing on it. 13 year old me had the biggest crush on him too xD

do you think? I hardly find this melancholic post-punkish vibe in Alpha Games, though I like both but Silent Alarm is just unreachable.

Alpha Games and Four are really bad, Kele should give up trying to match Silent Alarm and Weekend in the City, he's just not that kind of songwriter or vocalist anymore

After a few runs through the new album, I must say it is some kind of mediocre. For me, Bloc Party is about invention, on the past 3 Lps they discovered themself over and over again, and against the felt majority of Bloc Party Fans that always want Silent Alarm back, I embrace this. Sadly this time it doesn't sound this much like evolution, more like giving in to fans and it even feels a little forced in trying to make an upbeat Indie Record. But ok. What I'm disappointed about is Keles writing ... sad to see a lyricist like him, who got so much on the plate putting down this flat and sometimes cringe lyrics. The only exceptions are Of Things yet to come, If We get Caught, and The Peace Offering in which the clouded star of Keles writing breaks through the mist and hit some deepness. Also in Situ and Traps are good tracks the Rest is so far I can tell now mediocre, musically good even if it misses the melancholic finesse of older Lps. All in all so far for me sadly their worst output.

don't get the praise for in situ. seems like a middle of the road song to me, even for this album

The new album didn't disappoint too much, totally sounded like a tribute to Four/AWITC, but Keles new lyric style has to go, it's kinda embarrassing at points. The Sleazy Tough Guy image doesn't suit him or the band

I forgot to mention that, but yea it's one of the points where the lyrics don't really distract me at all. Great song

Well put. For me, Four’s guitar work and hooks are enough to offset any of the particularly bad lyrics. There are some great moments and even a few killer tracks on Alpha Games, but the balance just isn’t there for me this time around. Hardly their worst album but I can’t see myself itching to play it front to back, anytime soon.
