When Bob Sima (pronounced sEYE-ma) opens his mouth to sing what comes out is far beyond the human sounds of a warm and soulful voice. Beyond the songs, beyond the voice, beyond the stories. Yes…there’s more. A lesson, a nudge, a reminder, of the simple splendor of this place and these experiences we all share. The unique beauty is his presentation of these ancient messages - the conversations he has with the master teachers of the universe - in music that lives and breathes across generations. Bob has been called “Eckhart Tolle with a guitar” and his music truly heals and expands the heart. What draws you in is his ability to share these insights in a way that grabs your listening ear, inspires your beating heart, awakens your inner spirit, and transforms your most intimate desires. He is a poet, observer, scribe, and healer - all divinely bundled as a singing, songwriting transformative energy. His gift of music is a magnifying glass to the soul, each song sincere and worth repeating for a lifetime. The seemingly casual fashion that Bob makes his guitar speak is not coincidentally right in rhythm with all of the toes tapping, tears dripping, and hands clapping in the room. Bob truly moves his audiences - physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Bob is a different kind of musician and songwriter, with distinctive dreams and aspirations for his audience. Bob is more influenced by the likes of Rumi and Gandhi than he is by Dylan and Springsteen.
Bob is a nationally touring singer-songwriter based in Annapolis, Maryland. He burst onto the singer-songwriter circuit by playing in coffee houses, listening rooms, living rooms, and music festivals and by winning slots to perform in major songwriting contests like Kerrville Folk Festival, Mountain Stage, Wildflower, and Falcon Ridge. He has won the hearts of many judges, including a first prize honor at Wildflower from over 500 entries. Starting out as an opener for acts such as Ellis Paul, David Wilcox, Vance Gilbert, and Jesse Harris, Bob quickly built his headlining capability with his incredibly moving and transformative live performance.
He then focused his soulful energy, sharing music at spiritual centers, positive music festivals, and other events that promote personal growth and transformation. This led him on stage at events designed to deliver an intentional message. In March 2012 he performed his song “Be The Change” at the Be The Change National Conference and shared the stage with NY Times best-selling author and peace activist Marianne Williamson, who invited him to her event Sister Giant in November 2012. He has also shared the stage with British author Peter Russell and several other luminaries.
There is no way to encapsulate his records Pour It On, Periphery, and Thin Little Veil other than his tagline “Songs from the BrightSide”. There is true spirit in these records, one that will make anyone glow straight from the heart. All three records were produced in Bloomington Indiana at Airtime Studios by owner and producer David Weber (Carrie Newcomer, Krista Detor, Atlantic Records: Straight No Chaser) and with some well-known session players including Jason Wilbur (John Prine, Iris Dement). The records are organic, rich, studio versions of his songs, every bit expressive of the life, depth, and feel you get from a live performance. The records are full of percussive acoustic guitar, piano, organ, dobro, and highly impressive backing vocals by his musical friends Krista Detor and Amanda Biggs. The records cover the gamut from soulful-folk, gospel, alternative-country, and blues with Bob’s voice out front, painting with a familiar brush.
Bob has played many of the top music venues in the US including: Kennedy Center, Rams Head OnStage, RamsHead LIVE!, World Cafe Live, MUSIKFEST, Godfrey Daniels, Cellar Stage, Columbia Lakefront Concert Series, NightCat, Purple Fiddle, Columbia Festival of the Arts, Kerrville Folk Festival, Wildflower Festival, Dewey Beach Americana Festival, Unity Music Festival, Avalon Music Festival, Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, National Folk Alliance Festival and Conference, Susquehanna Music and Arts Festival, and the emPower Music & Arts Festival
