Biography

Buice is an Atlanta-based Noise Rock/post-hardcore act consisting currently of vocalist & bassist Hayden Locke.
Formed in 2018, Buice has gone through many different phases, lineups, and sounds before settling on their most recognizable identity in late 2021.
Buice began as a project between Hayden Locke and Russell Houk (currently in Bad Mint). The pair met in high school and began writing songs together in May of 2018 under multiple different names before settling on Buice. The duo still needed an actual drummer and so Russell Houk offered the position to Ian Valdes. Valdes accepted the offer and Now the trio began to prepare for shows and recording. Locke switched to the bass from drums and started off as the vocalist as well. The trio would play small shows throughout north metro Atlanta throughout 2018 and would also release their debut EP The Walrus, a more generic indie rock debut. The band would remain playing the same venues into 2019 where they would release their second EP Little Dudes, which contained the track Astronaut (the first track Houk and Locke ever wrote together) along with a more psychedelic and energetic style of songwriting. Buice would gain a small amount of momentum off of this EP and the single 7 Pages (released late 2019) in 2019 and into early 2020, playing some shows out of state and within the city of Atlanta. Any momentum was killed once the COVID pandemic occurred and the band would then go on hiatus to focus on writing their debut album. Over quarantine; however, Hayden Locke and Russell Houk had a falling out due to creative differences, which ultimately led to Houks departure in August of 2020. Locke and Valdes were adamant about still creating the album; however, both would end up going to college in different states in late 2020, which put the band on even further hiatus, between Houks departure and December 2020 Buice was essentially a dead project, with any return uncertain. Valdes and Locke had tryouts for some new potential guitarist shortly after Houks departure and in early September announced Jack Pace as the temporary guitarist until further notice; however, Pace had not formally joined the band and during this time it was still considered dead. It was not until December of 2020 when Hayden Locke did a studio session for another local Atlanta band Strumbrush which Jack Pace played guitar for as well. Through this session Locke would become close with Strumbrush and particularly Jack Pace which would reignite Buice to return. Locke and Pace would write occasionally but things would not take off until Ian Valdes returned for the summer of 2021 from Boston, Massachusetts. This new Buice lineup would begin writing new material immediately along with recording new material. After a decently long hiatus in June of 2021 Buice would release the single I’m Sick along with playing their first show in over a year that same month. Now back on track to finish the album they started Hayden Locke, Ian Valdes, and Jack Pace would begin recording their debut album, an album that saw what Buice formally was warped and mangled into a noise rock monster, unrecognizable from its former self. The band began to also gain traction after notably large shows at venues such as The Masquerade and Smiths Olde Bar, and releasing the single No Blood which saw more streaming success than they had ever seen before. Ian Valdes had to leave for Boston once again though in late August of 2021, so Hayden Locke and Jack Pace were left to search for a new Drummer. Jack Pace introduced Liam Burns to Hayden Locke in August and the new trio immediately clicked. The new trio would finish the last few bits of the album along with getting Liam accustomed to some live shows before releasing their debut album Buice November 19th, 2021. The release of this album coincided with a notable release show that would birth the true fandom of Buice (with re-occurring bits such as F*ck Buice, Jon Buice, and various other unhinged antics). From here Buice would only continue to grow before adding a 4th member for the 1st time in Harrison King. The now 4 piece would go into 2022 with momentum and would play various shows along with releasing a highly anticipated single Grifter in late March of 2022. Harrison King would depart from Buice in April of 2022 returning the band to the trio of Hayden Locke, Jack Pace, and Liam Burns.
2023 marked a year of change for the band, as longtime drummer Liam Burns departed the band in February of that year. A month later, the band welcomed a new drummer, Robert Lloyd. Later that year, Buice released their second album, "One Day You'll See the Sun" in December 2023, gaining considerable traction and acclaim on online music communities such as RateYourMusic.
As of March 2025, Buice is currently on an indefinite hiatus, as announced on their Instagram. Following this announcement, Jack, Josh, and Robert all took to Instagram to announce they were no longer part of the band, leaving Hayden as the only remaining member as of now.
