Biography

CBC Band was a Vietnamese band popular in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Made up of a family of poor Vietnamese the CBC discovered they could make money by playing western rock music to American soldiers stationed, or on leave in Saigon.

Fronted by Nam Loc and her brother, Tung Linh, who was one of the best guitar players in Vietnamese, the group played at the CBC bar where they got their name. On May 29, 1971 they played at South Vietnam's first International rock festival, Live at the Saigon Zoo.

On April 8, 1971 a bomb exploded in the bar killing one GI and a 14-year-old girl. While on tour in India, in the Spring of 1974, they applied for asylum in Australia. After being denied they were taken in by Tibetan monks who were themselves refugees in India. When the South fell in 1975 they applied at the US Embassy to grant them entry as refugees. They eventually settled in Houston, Texas.
