Calan (the start of a month, or year, in Welsh) is a five-piece revivalist traditional Welsh band. The band formed in early 2006 when its members ranged from 13 to 22 years old. In 2008, they were the first Welsh band to win the coveted international band competition at the Inter-Celtic Festival.
Calan is comprised of five members:
Angharad Jenkins - fiddle, mandolin, vocals
Bethan Williams-Jones - accordion, piano, vocals, clogs
Chris Ab Alun - guitar
Llinos Eleri Jones - harp
Patrick Rimes - fiddle, pibgorn (a traditional welsh instrument made of bone and wood), whistle
The debut album, Bling, was released in 2008. Subsequently, the band has released one album almost each year.
