Cancerslug is a band based in Huntsville, Alabama, renowned within the Horror Punk and Gothic/Death Rock communities. Established in 1996, the band has undergone several alterations in its lineup over the years, with Alex Story serving as the sole enduring member.
Adopting the moniker 'Cancerslug' in 1999, the band's lyrical themes frequently explore topics such as misanthropy, depression, the occult, necrophilia, rape, murder, lycanthropy, violence, inhumanity, hate, love, wrath, anger, and the end of the world. Shows often end with band members bloody and bruised.
Cancerslug draws inspiration from a variety of groups including Danzig, The Misfits, Minor Threat, Neurosis, Black Flag, GG Allin, Amon Amarth, Doyle, Deadboy and the Elephantmen/Dax Riggs, Filth, Blatz, Morrissey, His Hero Is Gone, The Damned, Mr. Bungle, At The Gates, Doom, Black Sabbath, The Dwarves, and more.
Their inaugural full-fledged tour across the United States was successfully concluded in the autumn of 2007.
Subsequently, in the winter of 2011, Cancerslug engaged with their fans for assistance in organizing their second nationwide tour, named The SlugCult Rising Tour. Formal announcements regarding tour dates were made at the onset of 2012.
In 2013, Cancerslug embarked on their subsequent comprehensive nationwide tour known as the RAPE THE NATION Tour, held in September/October to back their most recent album, SEASONS OF SICKNESS.
Additionally, during the same year, the band revealed the introduction of an official acoustic CD titled PULL THE PLUG. Moreover, a successor to SEASONS OF SICKNESS, named ROOTWORK, was announced in 2013. This album was subsequently made available for limited download in November 2014, with plans for an official CD release expected to follow in January 2015
