Biography
Carrie Marshall has an amazing ability to wrap her heart and voice around a lyric, infusing each song she sings with a power and poignancy all her own. With an expressiveness compared to the likes of Trisha Yearwood and a powerhouse alto range reminiscent of Faith Hill, Carrie captivates listeners with the depth of her smoky rich voice.
A preacher’s daughter who grew up singing in the church, Carrie performed her first original piano composition for a little congregation in Boulder City, NV when she was just eight years old. A writer for as long as she could hold a pencil, Carrie didn’t begin putting her poems to music until her late teens. But once she did, a whole new musical world opened up for her as she began performing anywhere someone was willing to listen, from coffeehouses, half-time college basketball games and even for inmates in prison. Upon graduation from college, Carrie joined a band as a lead vocalist and keyboardist that performed in a variety of venues in New England and beyond.
A move to Nashville in 2004 brought Carrie to the hub of Music City, where she immediately began performing in songwriter’s nights around town and honing her skills as a writer. People were quick to take notice of Carrie’s vocal abilities and emotive songs. Hit writer, Tom Douglas, described Carrie’s song, ‘Come What May’ as ‘’beautifully devastating”. She had the privilege of joining Tom and performing his hit song “God’s Will”, originally performed and recorded by Martina McBride, at a writer’s night with the legendary writer, Don Schiltz, and Leslie Satcher.
What Carrie loves best about songwriting and performing is being able to connect with the listener in an authentic way through music. Whether singing about the joy of life and love, or struggles with faith and pain, Carrie moves people because they are able to identify with her. “My goal is to be able to meet people where they are. When they hear my music, I want them to smile, laugh, cry or nod their heads in affirmation because they are immediately drawn to the truth and expressiveness of the lyrics. If I can come alongside listeners and encourage them in their life journey, I can think of no greater compliment.”
