Biography

Cheesy plays an energetic blend of freaky metal, funk and grooving hardcore. Influences of this Dutch band from Haarlem range from System of a Down to Primus, and from Faith No More to Carcass. Their surprising songs are made using a mix of brutal riffs, slapping bass, original drumming, and varied vocals. The band has earned much respect with their tight and in-your-face live performance. No angry faces, traumatic childhoods or cliché political statements: the four musicians play with total abandonment, and a passion and energy rarely seen on stage. Due to extensive touring outside of Holland, their fanbase in Europe is growing steadily…

Cheesy started in September 1998 as Cheesy Victims. Already from the beginning the band performed a lot, but things really started rolling in 2001 when the first 5-track CDemo was released. It received many positive press reviews, even in Italy. The band played a lot and performed for the second time in the Melkweg, a gig that impressed many people. Afterwards Cheesy was interviewed by Algemeen Dagblad (a main Dutch paper).

2002 was an even more successful year. The band collected a solid crew to ensure shows run smoothly and always look and sound great. Cheesy decided to break out of Holland, bought a large tour camper and organized a 16-day tour to Italy. This unforgettable experience brought the band still closer together. In April Cheesy won the Rob Acda Award, being the first metal band ever to win it. Shortly after, the band played at Bevrijdingspop Haarlem (50,000 people). The vibe around the band was also noticed by producer Justin Billinger , who approached Cheesy to help prepare for the recordings of the debut album. In November the band got signed by Little Shark Records, an independent label with interesting international contacts. Shortly after, Cheesy recorded the album at the prestigious Galaxy Studios in Belgium. The recordings were mixed at Studio 150 , and mastered at Abbey Road .

On March 27 2003 the band released 'Beg' at a full Patronaat with an explosive performance. The promotion tour also hit main Dutch venues 013 and Melkweg and continued with a second tour to Italy, more shows in Holland, Belgium and Germany and a successful tour to Austria, Slovakia and Hungary in September. In the mean time 'Beg' received many enthusiastic (inter)national reviews and is now distributed in Holland, Germany, Belgium and Japan.

In February 2004 the Smell From Hell Tour started with the Backseatboy video clip presentation in a packed venue in Haarlem. It continued in Holland together with foreign bands they met on previous tours. The tour received media attention by national radio and also by MTV Holland, who enthusiastically received the video clip and now play it regularly. Cheesy continued the tour in Italy, playing in a few of Italy's most important venues. After this successful tour Cheesy was invited by Rock TV, Italy 's national music station, to fly over to Milan in April and perform in the huge Rolling Stone. Footage from the kick-ass performance in front of 2000 people was broadcasted several times on national TV afterwards. Cheesy was also invited to play Maydayfest in Belgium and at Bevrijdingspop Haarlem, Hollands biggest one-day festival. In May Cheesy organized a 6-day tour together with two bands from Italy and Czech Republic, performing throughout Holland. In the mean time TMF Belgium also picked up the video clip.

Unfortunately, at that point bass player Wouter decided to leave Cheesy. Never the band to quit, Cheesy found a session musician willing to accompany them on their fifth international tour, this time to Czech Republic and Slovakia. Many new fans were made, especially by a show at the Slovakian Hodokvas festival.

After many auditions a new band member was found: Michel (ex-Brainshake). At full strength again, the band is currently writing fresh material and preparing for an extensive tour to introduce the new bass player and the new songs. Supported by a new videoclip, the tour will start in Holland, and continue in Eastern Europe (March) and Italy (May).
