California's Cheyo Carrillo is a charming, adept singer and accordionist known for his lyrical take on Mexican banda-styled pop. Born Xavier Carrillo in Los Angeles in 1998, Carrillo grew up attending numerous banda shows with his parents. Fascinated, he began singing around age three and was soon performing under the stage name Xavier "El Cheyo" Carrillo (later shortened to just Cheyo Carrillo). At age eight, he also began playing accordion and by the time he was 13 he'd toured with both Buknas de Culiacan and Alfredo Rios el Komander Band. It was while performing with Rios that Carrillo caught the attention of producers Adolfo and Omar Valenzuela (aka Los Twiins Valenzuela), who signed him to their Twiins label. His debut full-length, 2014's Cheyo Carrillo, featured the singles "Huele a Aventura" and "Como Pudiste." In 2016, Carrillo returned with the single "Es Normal." ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
