I remember being 15 and hearing the opening riff to Needled 24/7 for the 1st time. I was a fan for life after that and it blew my little metalhead mind. Still the band I've seen the most times live 20 years later. RIP Alexi, you're a fucking legend

the sixpounder intro riff got me into this band. and it wasn't even from the song, it was on a drop c riffs compilation video lmfao.

I'm glad I got to see them twice when I was in high school. Never headlining unfortunately but they were great performances.

Couldn't help but try listening to their music from several albums after such comment.) And have to admit that you are absolutely right! The music is very varied and has all these elements you named and even more to it. But at the same time you are right in that it's still not for everyone (me included unfortunately). These _insanely_ fast unnaturaly pumped-up drums, the grotesque artificially 'evil-ish' yelling/roaring vocals.. To the point that it's seriously bordering comedy many a time.:( Sorry martsum and all the CoB fans! it's not to offend anyone -- I just don't get it. Most of the time it's all like a 2x or 3x sped-up song of a group of trolls or goblins in some crazy cartoon.. With bands like this are you supposed to listen to it seriously, or is it all considered some kind of wild satanic debauchery? (I'm serious)

I especially like the 1st one, "Implosion of Heaven", title track is awesome as well as the song "Shards of Truth" which contaibs one of my favourite solos ever! Alexi was only about 15 there, which is INSANE and quite impressive for the quality ot the songs. His voice is surprisingly much deeper than later on, using a death metal growl instead of his later black metal inspired vocals. Of course the sound quality is pretty bad, but it's very listenable, especially if you're used to listen to obscure stuff. Highly recommended!

I can't really say i'm used to most of the obscure stuff, lol. I don't listen to much Black Metal whatsoever due to the usually poor production quality (which i know is intentional in that genre's case, but i can admit i just don't get it personally), but these are demos, so i can forgive the poor quality in that case.

I always liked Talking of the Trees (someone on youtube did a nice remaster a while ago), it had great atmosphere, especially the slow(er) parts and especially especially the bit with female vocals. If they did more stuff like this I wouldn't listen to anything else back then.

BTW, why did that weirdo goblin band cover Bodom Beach Terror? Ugh, it's such an uncreative cover.

Should be illegal how AYDY is in the top albums instead of Something Wild! :D

Well I'm still drinking off-and-on on a weekly basis, but I've certainly reduced my intake from half a gallon of vodka a day like before, and am involved in multiple recovery/support programs, so I think I'll probably be OK, but I'm totally not 100% sober either, so it's still kind of a balancing act for me. My liver is already permanently scarred to a pretty disturbing degree given that I'm only 27, so I have to take this shit seriously soon or otherwise I'm screwed!

Still find it hard to believe... it's good that we at least got some clarity in the end from the old members the other month.

The mid-era stuff is mostly forgettable (i still like some tracks), but they got back on right track with Halo of Blood! And from there onwards it was all awesome again! May the Wildchild Rest in Music!

Uhh... no? I'm a huge Metallica fan, but i don't really see any similarities between them and CoB, unless you meant the popularity, and even then they're not close to Metallica in that regard :D

I see. Well, in all honesty, no Metal band will ever be as big as Metallica, so Bodom aren't even close to that, but i can see where you're coming from. Altho i still wouldn't be too sure if that would be Bodom or Nightwish hahaha.

Giving the whole discography a spin today on the anniversary of Alexi's passing. When I was a kid, he inspired me to start playing guitar, and he (all of Children of Bodom) got me into extreme metal. I'm still blown away by how good he sounds in live recordings, all while doing both lead guitar and vocals at the same time. Absolutely immense talent. It's a damn shame I never got around to seeing them live.

He's commenting the same stuff everywhere, and it makes no difference whether that one word is in uppercase or not (not to mention it took a while to notice any difference between these and i was confused, shows how much it really affects anything). Either way, it's still the same name, not a big deal. Plus in terms of grammar "of" should be in lowercase so technically that's the right spelling.
