Biography of Clara Bow
October 2003: Two girls full of action finally found each other in Hamburg! Realising that they both dreamt of starting an all-girl-band but had never met the right people to fulfil their vision (which means no horny guys just wanting to prettify their band or people with no taste at all), new plans were made on the spot: Vera Weiss and Katrin Hesse both wanted to sing and to play the guitar! However, their motivation in practising the guitar was quite low during the last years, as they had already given up on the idea of forming a band. Although Katrin (La Chatte) had managed to find a substitute in dj-ing her favourite tunes, it couldn't give birth to her many bubblying ideas. But, happily, in the end they found somebody else in the same unsatisfying situation.
The Kick-off to finally start practising together was when Katrin won "3 months of using the rehearsal rooms in the FMZ for free" at the Ladyfest in Hamburg (Lots of thanks to you!!!). The first obstacle removed, they "just" needed to put together a band of graceful ladies who above all were friends.
In no time they thought of Sabine Scheppner, a girl who started playing the bass guitar in the living room together with her boyfriend. Surprisingly, they managed to get Bine out of her cosy home straight into the noise of the new rehearsal room! The three girls started harum-scarum playing cover songs with none of them ever been in a real band. A drummer was still missing and they knew it would be hard to find a female drummer, but they couldn't accept a male one because of practising in the Frauen-Musik-Zentrum where boys aren't allowed to step across the threshold…
Vera, who studies fine arts, painted a nice flyer searching for a female drummer. One of those later could be found in the Saal 2 - though Katrin wasn't quite sure if she had really found the women's toilet or if it had been the men's room… However, it seems that she had succeeded: Cause one girl named Phyllis Schrger applied. She saw the flyer by accident while having a hangover-brunch and became interested as the flyer said: "also beginners!" She was a bit sceptical though, knowing that she had started practising the drums only 1 year ago. And then her boyfriend foresighted that the band might be called "Die Vollgesaugten Tampons" (The Sucked Tampons) because of playing in the FMZ…
But they were lucky: The big day of meeting the fourth band member arrived pretty soon. When Phyllis was approaching the FMZ, Katrin - who's quite shortsighted - just saw the vintage boots and thought: Ah, that must be Vera or Bine. But no! It was their new drummer who fitted so perfectly into the band! It just took some seconds to get on like a house on fire. So, it was clear they needn't search anymore…
Because everybody knows it's harder to get organised when there are more people involved, they played without a keyboard or organ for more than a year. However, they always wanted one. Knowing that one can never start searching too early, they got on the nerves of Catharina R for quite a while. They knew that she had a lot of practice in singing and playing the keys. But they also knew that she already had her own band: The Peeptoes. …until Catharina saw that her female band members started getting big bellies! She knew she also needed a band that wasn't planning to have babies yet, because there was still so much to do: so many songs to play, to write and also to go on tour one day. So finally she joined Clara Bow and is now having a busy time balancing two all-girl-bands. Wow!
At the moment, the band has to practise with and without Vera. Vera also studies English and there was no way of succeeding her studies without going abroad for at least a year. But during this time she'll hopefully manage to join Clara Bow for some gigs until she's fully back on track with her girls!
