COPPERSKY is rock band formed by three brothers and two friends and based in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Hanging somewhere in the balance between the tradition of American heartland rock and punk infused powerpop with a tinge of classic rock, soundwise COPPERSKY can be seen as a cousin to rock bands such as The Hold Steady, The Replacements and The National. Delivered in leadsinger Erik Zwart’s rich deep voice (often compared to that of Matt Beringer and Craig Finn), thematically COPPERSKY’s lyrics revolve around semi-autobiographical confessions of failures and redemption in a working class context.

After releasing their first album “Relief, Be Around the Bend” and an ensuing self-titled 7 inch EP independently, they drew the attention of renown German label Uncle M (Hot Water Music, The Smith Street Band, Boysetsfire) and will release their second album, “If We’re Losing Everything” with them in the Spring of 2016. The lyrics on the song “Bankrupt” are exemplary for the themes off the new record. Zwart draws from his experiences as a small business owner and his relationships on the album and hurls desperate lines such as “We’re going bankrupt, we’ve got no love left” and “I’m hanging on by a thread, keeping our business from falling apart” with conviction. The stories behind these songs display his struggle to keep his head above water financially and relationally and how these separate struggles relate to each other.

COPPERSKY’s songs are passionate, clever and accessible while remaining firmly rooted in the alternative punk rock tradition the band members grew up listening to. In 2016 this second record holds the promise of taking the band to new stages so that a wider audience can experience their intense, emotionally charged live show.
