Biography

Costellar is a pop-rock project that primarily consists of vocalist/guitarist Danny Vail on studio recordings. The live lineup currently consists of Danny Vail (Vocals/guitar), Brandon Spearman (bass), and Randall Erno (drums). Costellar was formed by Danny Vail in June of 2008 and self-released an EP entitled "From The Ceiling To The Sky" that was recorded in Vail's bedroom using one microphone for drums and vocals, with guitars and bass being recorded directly into Vail's MacBook and GarageBand recording software. Almost immediately after finishing the EP, Vail took one of the songs to local recording engineer Charles Burkle and asked him to record a full-length for him. After hearing two of the songs, Burkle agreed. Vail then spent the winter and spring of 2010 recording his first full-length album, "Waves" and released it on iTunes that July.
After tracking the album, Vail wrote a song called "Vacation," a song he decided was better than anything he had ever done. He describes the song as "breaking away from the early Saves The Day and Alkaline Trio-inspired material I had just recorded, and sounding less like anything I had ever heard… catchy as anything, and just huge sounding." Vail began writing an entire album in the interim between tracking Waves and mixing it. By August 2010 he had another full-length ready to record. Vail has announced via his blog that Randall Erno and Brandon Spearman will be collaborating on the new songs, Erno as a drummer and Spearman as a producer.
Currently, Costellar is recording a sophomore full-length album, and has plans to record an EP of new and acoustic material in Troy, OH with Hawthorne Heights guitarist Micah Carli in January of 2011.
