Wiki
Hardcore History is Carlin's podcasting forum for exploring topics throughout world history. The podcast, which boasts of more than 3 million downloads to date, was nominated in 2012 for a Stitcher Award in the Best Educational & Learning Podcast category. The focus of each episode varies widely from show to show but is generally centered around specific historical events and are discussed in a "theater-of-the-mind" style. New episodes are released approximately every two to five months.
In 'Hardcore History', the very unconventional Dan Carlin takes his outside-the-box way of parsing history through independently researched thinking and applies it to the past. This isn’t academic history (and Carlin isn’t a professional historian) but the podcast’s unique blend of high drama, masterful narration and Twilight Zone-style twists have entertained millions of listeners the world over. Was Alexander the Great as bad a person as Adolf Hitler? What would Apaches with modern weapons be like? Will our modern civilization ever fall like civilizations from past eras? This is a difficult-to-classify show that has a rather sharp edge. Not advertised for everyone, 3 million downloads are still a kind of testimony to its cult status.
