Biography
Danielle Stech Homsy (also known as Rio en Medio) was born on a cold January morning in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in New Mexico. As a child she quickly learned to make the most of her surroundings. She danced for mom, made costumes for pinecones and tamed a wild cat named “Outside Kitty” who became her best friend. Her mom was a flamenco dancer and would take her to rehearsals where she would watch and listen very intently and even join in sometimes. Even though her father lived in L.A. with his boyfriend he was the best dad in the world because he built her a miniature theater and a secret garden and he made her pee her pants laughing about Santa and his naughty elves with their oozies. While dad was away, mom’s new boyfriend gave Danielle a BARITONE UKULELE, which will come into our story later.
In 1986, Danielle and her mother moved to California to be closer to her father.
In 1991 Danielle’s father died of AIDS.
In 2003, Danielle found her old BARITONE UKULELE and recorded her first album Songs for Santa Ynez, which had a horse and a fan on the cover. Then a year later she made another album called A Bride’s Guide to Waiting Music, which collected poems and stories and sounds and made them into very unusual and distinctive songs with many layered voices and unexpected electronic beats. After recording for a while, Danielle began to want to perform her music on stage, so she built herself a little one to play in. But then she got bored with that and started playing on a real stage. She made some special friends who wanted to help her share her music with the world by releasing a mysterious new version of A Bride’s Guide to Waiting Music on their equally mysterious record label – Gnomonsong. This album is due to hit stores in the very near future. About her music, Danielle reflects that it is better to listen to it than be told what to think about it.
