Biography
DATS THE CRUX is one of the freshest alternative pop acts erupting out of Auckland. Described by Real Groove magazine as “propulsive electro-pop confection”, this super-danceable and fun music is performed by three girls who magnetize the crowd.
In the latest of their themed shows DATS THE CRUX are robots: powered by a beat & programmed to have fun.
Their unique sound makes the crowd want to short circuit on the dance floor, with sweet synth melodies laced that kick like party punch.
DATS THE CRUX tunes are created by Joy Ramirez who sings lead, backed by vocalists/dancers Cara and Buffy. Joy’s worked with a variety of producers, including co-writing some songs with her brother Michael Ramirez who played in Cut Off Your Hands.
Joy says, “the whole idea behind Dats The Crux was to transport the audience into a different world, so we’d put on these themed shows. Previous themes were ‘Sangria’, ‘Nautical’, ‘Street Stripes’, & ‘Venetian b’ – a show themed on venetian blinds… definitely one of our more obscure!”
