posted 04-30-2012, "There's at least some ready to light fire and revolutionary 'social commentary' passion in this song. Yes, the instrumentation is chilling, relaxing and sonic. But the lyrics have venom. I feel David Gray is feeling isolated and lonely at the world; its eerie dark SNOBBISH UNCARING $ELFISH silences of Western Suburbia, night after night & aeon upon aeon. We yearn with him to recapture the innocence & untainted hope of childhood & ''wild'' birth, now marred in adulthood (even tainted teenage years) by the rat race STUCK UP a$$ pursuits of modern capitalism. Definitely hints of John Lennon, so go DG! '...never noticing the war until it's right there at your door...' , '...hold on to nothing so write it down...'"

twitterpatter - that's the line that always strikes me when I hear this song. Definitely a classic and one of the best on White Ladder despite not being as popular as This Years Love and Babylon.

Bonnie Raitt did an excellent cover of this song. Just as good as the original in my opinion.
