Biography
Formed in Stirling on January 1st 2000, DorA are generally labelled "post-hardcore" but this narrowing tag only applies if it incorporates the same spirit of invention that made bands like Fugazi, Cable, Helmet and Jawbox great. Obvious childhood influences from the worlds of hardcore and grunge are combined with a passion for alternative pop. Ultimately elements of artists as diverse as Unsane, Interpol, Elliott Smith and Fu Manchu are smashed together at high speed yet, far from leaving a twisted, inconsistent wreck, the results are intricate, fascinating works of contemporary pop-art.
In short: Dead or American make accessible but ingenious alternative rock.
With a long-standing devotion to DIY ethics, the band initially founded their label Predestination Records to release their own work, though it later expanded its catalogue to include works by some of Scotland's most invigorating alternative acts. Numerous UK tours and a recording in Boston, with Kurt Ballou of the band Converge went past, before DorA embarked on hiatus in October of 2009. Rumours abound of new material bubbling away in practice rooms though there have been no official declarations of an intention to reunite.
