Biography

There is more than one artist with the name Diamond Doll.:

{1} Diamond Doll was a microtonal/xenharmonic hyperpop-adjacent synthpunk act based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Their music is heavily influenced by artists like Wire, Momus, and Xiu Xiu. It consists of chaotic and noisy production, melodies and chord progressions that cannot be replicated in twelve-tone equal temperament, and in the band's own words, "ragingly queer….wildly oversharing" lyrics. They began recording under the name Diamond Doll in 2019 with "Cool Guitar Girl/It's Different For Boys" as their debut single. 2022 has seen renewed activity under the Diamond Doll name, but due to a trademark dispute Diamond Doll will be recording under a new name moving forward.

{2}Diamond Doll was a female fronted hard rock band from Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. They now perform under the name The Diamond Dead as of 2018.

The band formed in 2010 and features three of four members of the now disbanded Oxboy. Expect heavy but melodic; the hard edge of metal with a rock foundation and punk rock attitude. Diamond Doll bring the noise but they don’t forget the music.

The band released their debut single ‘Consume’ in 2012 which features on the compilation album ‘DOCO 2010-2011’ out on Hawke’s Bay based label ‘Hit Your Head Music.’

Already the band has an impressive list of gigs under their belt, including performing two years running at New Zealand’s biggest Motorcycle Festival ‘Cold Duck', and after winning the fan-based poll in 2011, Diamond Doll were the opening band for ‘I Am Giant’ NZ in Hawke’s Bay. They most recently brought in the the new year (2013) as a supporting act for 'Devilskin'.

In April this year they released their debut EP album 'Plus None'.

2013 brings plans of new material, and some out of town shows.
