Dream Theater always sounded wimpy. I like them though. It sounds like an opera.

This album makes me feel like I’m listening to A shitty Disney parody of a prog metal band

I loved it when it was released in sam goody. I thought it was train of consequences.

The cashier at sam goody told me it was train of thought by dream theater and I was impressed. I bought Samurai Shodown, The world needs a Hero and Gundam Wing Endless Waltz all together that day.

The one-two-three punch of SFAM to Six Degrees to this has to be one of the most astonishing accomplishments in progressive metal history. They wouldn't be as consistent after this but those three plus Awake are pretty much classics from start to finish.

Still hands down my favorite Dream Theater album in the post Scenes From A Memory era (which is my personal favorite). Production sounds great, especially drums. There is a more aggressive urgency than any other DT album, with a huge consistent drive. No low points (Their last album to not have any low points, with the exception of maybe Black Clouds). I still remember how much of an uninspired and drab disappointment Octavarium was to follow up Train of Thought.

this album is just... a tad too loud... unfortunate clipping. that aside, i don't think it sounds that bad, but it's kind of sad thinking about how immense this album could have been if it was done right

Nah, the mastering is typical modern loudness war garbage, though to be fair, all their official releases since Awake have had that problem (some of the "official bootlegs" haven't been clipped though). Other than that the production and, for that matter, the album is pretty much perfect though.

This album was immense, and one of their best sounding production-wise too! Unlike that turd Octavarium which followed with dull sound, and nothing but power ballads.

I'm revisiting Dream Theater after many years, and I have to say that this album's a pretty big disappointment. The lyrics and the 'edgy' guitar riffs are a little too trying. That said, "As I Am" , "Stream of Consciousness" and "In The Name of God" still hold up well, for me anyway.

What an album guys!!!! Great production, riffs, solos, vocals, lyrics, drums, audible interesting bass lines, and emotion behind each band members input. Love it. I think this comes right after images and words as my favorite Dream Theater album. :D

I will have to say that the pair Vacant + Stream Of Consciousness open my world to the progressive metal. I believe that they are all about the resignation of a mind that falls into lunacy.

Such an amazing album, from the production, consistency, vision, to the harder edge, to over-the-top shredding insanity. Dream Theater peaked here, and everything since has been a little too soft, a little too ballady, and just not as rad. This is the last Dream Theater album to be great from start to finish. Later albums have good songs on them, but not one of the later albums is excellent from start to finish

Stream of consciousness is by far the best song in the album and whole dream theater songlists. (one of the reasons is that it's instrumental and labrie didn't ruin the song)
