Biography
Dyan Diamond is an amazing singer who seemed like a female Elvis Presley in her style. In fact her rendition of Elvis's Heartbreak Hotel is classic and rivals that of the version that Tanya Tucker did. She was considered to be "alternative rock" circa 1976. Since I was living in the Los Angeles area at the time I appreciated her song, Western Avenue, with the lyric of, "It's a human zoo". She was associated with Punk Rock at the time because of being alternative. She became the object of criticism because her producer was Kim Fowley who was the last producer of The Byrds. Kim Fowley changed the sound of the Byrds and it was the end of that band. Kim Fowley was, also, the producer of The Runaways, a rock band with underage, teenage girls that included Joan Jett and Lita Ford. Dyan Diamond was accused of just being another Kim Fowley creation. In fact Dyan Diamond had a crack rythmn and blues band whose front musician was an excellent blues harmonica player.
