Ebonivory is an alternative, heavy modern prog-rock band from Ballarat, Australia. The band was created by multi-instrumentalist, singer and producer Charlie Powlett, who is the frontman and the mastermind behind Ebonivory. Powlett not only writes all the songs and the concepts; he also records and produces all of the band's music, under the name of Secondhand Sight & Sound (his own independent recording studio).
Ebonivory first released a 14-minute EP called Ebonivory I and published on BandCamp on August 1, 2014. One year later, with a more mature sound and a more shaped style, the band published their first full-length album The Only Constant on August 16, 2015. The album includes the independently released singles Swineheart, King of the Thistle Field and Silent Sirens.
On July 9th, 2016 - time after the release of The Only Constant and a few live shows in Australia - Powlett announced he had given up the touring life and announced on the band's Facebook page that they would have stopped being a touring band and continued only as a solo studio project, just like it first started. About one month later from the announcement, on August 16th, Ebonivory II was released. The 25-minute EP features three songs first released independently as singles: Gravity, Light The Fires and Heat Death of the Universe.
With the release of Ebonivory II, Powlett decided to take back his words and to take a run at taking the band somewhere, following his dream. In 2017 the line-up of the band changed, with the enrollment of fully committed and motivated, talented musicians (actual line-up: Charlie Powlett - vocals, Jake Ewings - guitar, Aidan Simpson - guitar, Connor McMillan - bass, David Parkes - drums).
Ebonivory are currently working on a new full-length second album, with the first single being released on September 1st. Their first overseas tour is on the horizon.
