Biography
There are at least two artists with the name Eira
1. A progressive metal / doom metal (active from 2011 to present)
2. Ambience/doom solo project from Indonesia (active from 2014 to present)
1. The name "Eira" was chosen for the band because it is the Welsh word for "snow," which we thought would suit us, being Progressive Metal, because winter is cold and dark, unmerciful and unrelenting, yet beautiful at the same time. It is harsh, but breathtaking. That is what we are trying to recreate; we try to combine heavy and soft, dark and bright.
Eira was formed in July of 2011 by Tom Gerwitz and Tom Jurkovic after jamming several times for fun. We both had a mutual interest in progressive music, and drew influences from Death Metal and Black Metal, but also from softer genres of music. Derek Schultz joined on bass shortly after the formation of Eira, and we soon began writing the rest of our first song. The EP "A Death Painted Portrait" was released on February 19th 2012.
Eira is currently writing their full length album (title not yet released) and plan to record late 2013/early 2014.
