Engelsstaub is a German music project founded in 1992 by Mark Hofmann, formerly known as GODkrist. Initially conceived as a solo endeavour and a continuation of his previous band Les Fleurs du Mal, the project has released all its work through Apollyon, a label co-managed by Hofmann and Janusz Zaremba.
Shortly after the release of the 7" single "Unholy", Hofmann was joined by his sister Silke (formerly known as Lilith) and labelmate Janusz Zaremba. Silke contributed vocals, and Zaremba provided both guitar and Polish-language vocal performances.
The band's debut album, "Malleus Maleficarum", was released in 1993. Songs such as "Kissed by God" and "Fallen Angel" received club play across Europe. The second album, "Ignis Fatuus: Irrlichter", followed in 1994 and incorporated elements of gothic, alternative, and world music. The track "Victim of Love" became a popular selection in club and radio playlists.
Engelsstaub released the split 10" "In Amoris Mortisque" with Ataraxia in 1995 and the CD-EP "Unholy" in 1997 before issuing the album "Anderswelt" in 1999. In addition to its regular discography, the band has contributed exclusive tracks to numerous compilation albums. These works reflect a range of stylistic experimentation and document the band's evolving sound.
