A vibrant and refreshing departure from today's homogenized world of music, Erwilian shapes their unique sonic blend around traditional melodies with distinctly modern influences. Instruments range from recorders, guitars, and drums, to the more unusual - bouzouki, hammered dulcimer - and just about everything in between. The same can be said of Erwilian's personnel, where each member of the group brings to the table his or her musical influences, from classical to pop/rock, new age to bluegrass. With the raw energy the band brings to the stage, audiences are always in for an exciting and engaging live concert performance.
Erwilian originated as an acoustic experiment by Seattle-area musician Scott Melton who, with friend Jordan Buetow, formed the band Wood, Wind, & Wire in the year 2002. Later that year, Wood, Wind, & Wire stepped out into the local music scene with the release of "Troubadours," a Christmas album. Over the next three years the band evolved into Erwilian as it is known today.
While Erwilian continues to evolve, the group is steadfast in its tradition of acoustic music, a "contemporary revival" of folk. Founding members Scott Melton and Jordan Buetow are joined by Bethel Melton, Jeff Reed, Robert Schuweiler, and Bill Bowser. Erwilian believes the music they perform is meant to be played as an ensemble - the emotions music invokes can only come from people giving it voice as a collective gathering.
