Biography

Esther first fell in love with music whilst singing for her college gospel choir and early on was chosen to collaborate on a project in South Africa with the Princes Trust, performing for Nelson Mandela. She was encouraged by this early success to train her voice in real depth and studied classical voice at English National Opera working with acclaimed West End director Rufus Norris and vocal coach Mary King.

Singing with international shows such as Riverdance-The Show and with the Mediaeval Baebes, has taken her to Australasia and all over Europe as well as recent concerts in America.

As a singer songwriter she is now able to combine the demands for her voice from the commercial and theatrical worlds with her own writing and performing project as a solo artist.

Today Esther’s voice and music reflects her vast musical experiences and influences. Esther weaves interesting melodies which are intimate and explorative and jumps with ease from low and husky to pure and high. Her range appears to have no limits, drawing inspiration from the soulful angelic voice of Minnie Ripperton her voice soars to ethereal heights. She has a sweetness reminiscent of little jazz bird Blossom Dearie.

Esther is inspired by the music of Kate Bush, the flowery metaphors and vocal harmonies created by 70's songwriter Judie Sill particularly on her album Heart Food and the raw emotion and versatility of Bjork to name but a few. Jaques Brel, Kurt Weill, Gabriel Faure, Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder and Imogen Heap are among the many artists very dear to Esther.

Despite her consummate skill and artistic maturity Esther maintains a playful, childlike quality; a fascination for her surroundings, full of secrets and mischief. Anyone lucky enough to spend time with her will instantly see and feel those two sides at work.
