FLOONE…. Are a fast paced indie band with the distinct Manchester edge of their home town.
Formed in 2008, when David Harris joined long standing friends, Will Nagle, Rob Byrom and Matt Love. Nagle had been determined to bring the bass back in to Manchester bands and teamed up with school friend, Byrom, who would knock out beats to match the fury of Nagle’s. With Love on vocals, a new Manc front-man was born. Attempts by the trio of vocals, bass and drums to find a guitarist had been stuttered but with the addition of Harris, something instantly seemed to click. With songs being written by the whole band, a real feel of Floone's sound was quickly hit upon… So the guitars were turned up, the bass rumbled, the drums beat and the lyrics snarled out. Loud, fast and how it should be! Gigs began in March 2008 at Night and Day on Oldham Street.
Reviews of the night described the sound as "If Ian Brown had joined Rage Against the Machine"…Result!! Other gigs shortly followed in venues such as The Academy Manchester, Retro Bar, The Roadhouse, The Hope and Anchor in Camden, MOHO Live (Once supporting Dodgy, Once supporting The Lambrettas), The Ruby Lounge, Opening up the MAPS festival at Dry Bar (Supporting Kid British), Supporting Dirty Pretty Things, at London’s Dirty South bar, to name just a few.
In 2009 Harris left the band for a short while to backpack around the globe (guitar in hand of course!). The band was put on hold until his return at the end of ’09. During this time batteries were recharged and new songs were written. Gigging recommenced in 2010 with the same high energy shows.
In late 2010 following some collaboration with Harris on his solo work, Damian Dommett was invited to join the band bringing his nimble fingers to the keys. A 3 song demo was recorded and the new lineup were booked for gigs for the rest of the year.
2011 looks exciting for floone, with more new tracks, gigs and exposure.
