Biography

NEW WAVE|TECHNO
FRANCE

Since the age of 6 Franck Kartell was surrounded by music and learns to play the piano at age 10. He is first exposed to electronic music in 1986, with the ever-popular “House” music. Five years later with his first paycheck, he buys his first synthesizer. Leading his way to buy other legendary machines as the Minimoog, the Korg MS 20, The Sequencer SQ 10, The Juno 106 and the OBXa. Pure Analog sounds!

Franck starts to play live and creates a techno radio show in west France. His first maxis are then released on techno/hard-tech labels under the pseudo of Blob.

As a vinyl collector he listens to a wide spectrum of music from disco, funk, house, techno, jazz, and pop electro. Though his main influences come from the 80’s style of new wave, EBM, italo disco, electro and old school hiphop. Some of Franck’s favorites are: Kraftwerk, Telex, Grandmaster Flash, Yello, Yazoo, Paul Hardcastle, Front 242 and Art of Noise.

In 2004 he sends a demo to Lab Insect that catches him immediately. A maxi follows on Elektrofon. "The Sound of the Future EP", with remixes by Millimetric (Goodlife) and Lab Insect. "The Sound of the Future EP” is received with very good reviews from the musical press (D-Side, Trax) and is also is listed on the play list of The Hacker.

The latest on Elektrofon from Franck is a retro-electro piece, built to hit the dance floor with certain elegance. Strange melodies grab you instantly, and can't let you go away. Beware!
