Synopsis
Ginda Bestari (born 20th October 1986) is an Indonesian guitarist, singer, songwriter, composer and session musician. His style of playing the guitar is smooth, soulful and sophisticated. His debut album titled “Soulful Desire” (2015) is mainly blues, with some jazz, funk, soul and rock ‘n’ roll. He works and is supported with the best musicians Indonesia has to offer like Yance Manusama (Bass), Rayendra Sunito (Drum) and Harry Anggoman (Hammond Organ, Rhodes, Piano). The album was produced by none other then Rayendra Sunito.
Early Life
Ginda was born in Jakarta, grew up in Sukabumi and is currently living in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. His talent for music has been a gift from God to him simply because there had been no musical talent running in his family prior to his. His passion for playing guitar started during his high school years. He began by playing famous songs from Iwan Fals and Slank. While seriously pursuing to learn the electric guitar his mainstream music was listening to hard rock such as Mr. Big and Extreme. Only after he was given and listened to a cassette of Gary Moore given by his aunt, his interest in blues was triggered. Since then he listens to electric blues played by artists such as BB King, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Johnny Winter.
Influences
Ginda Bestari’s style of playing the guitar is smooth, soulful and sophisticated. Mostly influenced by famous blues jazz guitarists such as Robben Ford, Matt Schofield and Chris Cain, blues rock guitarists Eric Gales, Derek Trucks, Joe Bonamassa and Philip Sayce, as well as rock guitarists Andy Timmons, Eric Johnson and Joe Satriani.
The Studio Albums
Ginda Bestari recorded two studio albums so far. One is named “Let Me Try” (2012) and was recorded in collaboration with his trio band members Gega Gageh (Bass) and Yandi Andaputra (Drums). The trio was called “Ginda and The White Flowers”. The album’s producers were Yudani Gambiro and Zulkarnain Joel and it was recorded at Tema Studio Production, Jakarta and was mastered by one of Indonesia’s finest master mixing engineers, Stephan Santoso. After the release of their debut album “Let Me Try” the trio decided to separate in 2013.
In August 2015 Ginda released his debut album called “Soulful Desire”. Again Ginda was supported by Indonesia’s best musicians such as Yance Manusama (Bass), Rayendra Sunito (Drums) And Harry Anggoman (Hammond Organ, Rhodes, Piano). Production and mixing was done by Rayendra Sunito and the mastering by Steve Corrao at Sage Audio, Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
Equipment
Ginda Bestari plays the AGL Guitar (Asia Guitar Labs) Masterpiece Strat by maker Gilles DeNeve who is one of the best luthiers in Indonesia. For amplification, Ginda uses a Fender Deluxe Reverb ‘65 Reissue. For cables, Ginda uses Evidence Audio Cables, models Lyric HG and Monorail. For effects pedals Ginda uses Sonic Research Turbo Tuner ST-200, Fulltone Octafuzz, Providence Stampede OD, Lovepedal Kalamazo, KS Aji Trondolo Tremolo, Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay and others.
As a Session Musician
At the beginning of his professional career, which started in 2010, Ginda was often sought after as a session musician. He collaborated with many Indonesian and Malaysian solo artists who valued him as a guitarist. Among others he was involved in songs from artists such as :
