Biography
Grant Damon is a Brooklyn rapper and producer making ridiculous music that nobody really listens to. Inspired equally by southern trap-hop and swag rap, New York foodie blogs, and contemporary literature about middle-aged men (think Ian McEwan's "Saturday" and Richard Russo's "Straight Man"), Grant makes hip-hop you've never heard before. It's unusual, it's hilarious, it's embarrassing, and it won't get out of your head.
Imagine Mannie Fresh and K.E. On The Track force-fed caffeine pills and run through a Nintendo Entertainment System. Then imagine the kid from middle school who thought he was smarter than everyone else because he had already read "The Great Gatsby" and totally realized that middle school dances were like microcosms of the failed American dream, so why would even bother trying to get a date? Imagine that kid with a crippling sense of self-doubt, a mind full of Wikipedia music trivia, a closet full of ties, and some dirty Vans. Now have him talk about himself over your Frankenstein beat. Layer him three or four times, letting him go breathless, interrupt himself, and get excited any time he hears something he likes.
That's basically Grant Damon, except not quite as good. Grant's first album, "Be More Awesome," comes out June 2010.
