Biography
GENERAL INFORMATION
Full Name: Gabriel Robert
Genre: Acoustic
Origin: Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia
Gabriel Robert Rawantas, fondly known as ‘Guba’ is a Sabahan singer-songwriter who has been singing his own written compositions for the past 13 years – albeit only to himself in privacy – until now.
Describing his music as alternative-folk, he flew in to Kuala Lumpur after accepting a job offer, and there discovered Greenhouse Studio in Ampang where he took the songs he had penned to be recorded. He was snapped up by the founders of Laguna Music as soon as they realized that the music they had coming through was a rare find, earning him their support and signing with them to produce his forthcoming debut album.
Guba’s first single You & Me, released in July of 2011 is a briskly paced drive in the voice of a young couple falling out of love, realizing their alliances are no longer to each other, and thus trying to end it kindly.
Set to be released in September is his second single, Sunday Morning is a more positive side of Guba, taking listeners through a tune sang about the freshness and liberation of Sunday, the day of freedom for most of us. Sunday Morning makes for a good winding down soundtrack to end the weekend to.
For his upcoming debut album effort, Laguna Music pulled together a team of musicians and collaborators enviable by any rising musician, with the likes of SevenCollar T-shirt frontman and guitarist Saiful Ridzuan and Jeffrey Little of Prana heading the team as producers.
Multi-award winning songstress, Yuna has also collaborated with him in the soon to be released tender duet You’re So Fine after being wowed by Guba’s demo song about the vulnerable professing of deep devotion and innocent love that was played to her. The track will also be featured in the soundtrack for the upcoming movie titled KIL.
The path seems to have cleared for Guba’s full-on charge into the hearts and song books of music lovers, all that’s left for you to do is to take up the open invitation to be moved by his music.
