While they have a few songs that are unquestionably just uncredited covers, I think the jump to "Omg all their other songs must have been ripoffs too" was a huge reach. Like there's a difference between being derivative of a popular style and plagiarism. Also a couple of the "ripoffs" that people like to harp on are just one riff that has been sampled and flipped into a new context, and as a fan of 90s electronic/industrial music that seems acceptable to me? Like building new songs around uncredited samples of other songs was pretty normal at that time.

Well i'm mostly blaming Asaki for it because afaik Full's later projects are ripoff-free.

I went back to OTHER GOOSE the other day, and it's still a fantastic album. I'm not sure though the blame can be fully placed on Asaki, as Full was apparently a willing participant as well. Music media in Japan is fucking garbage, but I gotta wonder if there are any writeups from 1998 or 1999 that make these connections with possible explanations as to why it happened. Also, I went back and listened through BUG's discography with Asaki the other day... there is a track on "Freak EP" that borrows elements from NIN's Closer and Into the Void. GAH

It's a little frustrating, because the remaining songs on DAZZLE I haven't confirmed yet are still suspect to me now. If GRAZING (the one written by Imai Hisashi) ends up being another "cover," I'll flip. :O

Baby's One Do (Fools Gold by The Stone Roses), Drop an Oar (Cuckoo by Curve), Steel Leaf (Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus by Curve), DADA (Is There Something I Should Know? by Duran Duran), Tooi Kari (Send His Love To Me by PJ Harvey) and Looser Sugar (Sugarcube by Yo La Tengo). My mind is blown....

Daily reminder that Guniw Tools aren't that great; just another uncredited open-covers band. Nookicky > Shilfee > Tafuca > ocq > Guniw Tools.

I love Jake and niwlun/other goose are both brilliant, but dazzle and fickle boon win for me and are 2 of my favorite albums ever. THERE!

eh, call me crazy but I prefer post-Jake GT music. Though of course Jake was extremely talented, just dazzle/fickle boon and that era singles really do it for me. Steel leef/drop an oar are the 2 songs I really would like to find out more about. Of course looser sugar is a cover, and plenty of flour is just the intro. Still my opinion isn't really changed at all by this
