New Day Rising was a really important album to me at a time when it felt like everything fucking sucked and nothing mattered. the album cover alone filled me with warm feelings. Books About UFOs was my favourite track. even though my life is a lot less bleak now, i can't enjoy Husker Du the same way anymore because i associate it so closely with that difficult time in my life. still gotta respect the legends even if i've grown out of them.

Just listened to a couple of songs from New Day Rising and suddenly realized the similarity of the sound and vocals to Grazhdanskaya Oborona

I'm giving this band a second chance. I remember starting off with Land Speed Record or Everything Falls Apart years ago, I didn't like one of the albums at all and figured I'd never like this band. Did I start off with the wrong record and should have started with Zen Arcade? I'm listening to Zen Arcade and I find it to be fantastic so far. It's better than whatever I started out with years ago.

Yeah, Zen Arcade marked one of the most violent and unexpected shifts in both style and quality from any band. It's far superior to Everything Falls Apart, which is kind of just generic hardcore punk honestly.

By "generic" I don't mean uninspired or unoriginal... it's a great album it just lets it's influences shine too bright.
