Biography
"Benton Lad" Harry Palmer, is a small-time busker who used to play at pubs and clubs before Newcastle United home games at St. James' Park. His music mostly consisted of popular chants mixed with simple, but effective guitar chords. His most famous song to date is probably 'The Andy Cole Song' which combined the popular Gallowgate chant with the tune of Boney M's 'Hooray! Hooray!'
Harry was influenced in his songs by former Newcastle United greats Malcolm MacDonald, Jimmy Smith, Kevin Keegan, Andy Cole, Micky Burns and Alan Gowling. However, his biggest influence was without doubt Terry Hibbert, who regularly featured in his songs.
Harry was never one to shy away from controversy in his songs and constantly made bold and outlandish statements including "Lee Clark's better than George Best" and in his song 'We Will Follow United' Harry claimed that Geordies should "Slap your lass with a christmas tree"
Harry will forever be associated with Newcastle United's 'Entertainers' era and many refer to him as 'The Geordie Dancer of the 90's'
