Biography
Helder da Rocha is a Brazilian artist that lives in São Paulo, Brazil. His main instruments are the piano and the accordion. Most of his compositions are based on the piano, with occasional duos for piano and strings, or woodwinds. His songs and themes have been used as soundtracks for theater plays and short movies. He has a classical background and influences from minimalist, pop, electronic and folk Brazilian music.
Helder was born in Campina Grande, Paraiba, and at age seven moved to Canada (Waterloo, Ontario) where he lived for five years. He started his piano studies at age 10 at the Ontario Conservatory of Music, in Kitchener. He started recording music electronically in 2006, for the soundtrack of a play where he also participated as an actor, but more than 90% of his music was composed after 2009. There are very few acoustic recordings. Most of them are produced from computer samples.
Helder is well known in the technology industry for his books and courses on Web technologies. Having been trained as an electrical engineer, with a masters degree in computer networks, he moved to São Paulo in 1995 after publishing a guide on Web page authoring when the Web was just beginning. He is the author of two books on Web Design and several text books on programming, mostly produced for his IT consulting firm which mainly sells courses in technology. He is a frequent speaker at technology events and ocasionaly writes for technical magazines.
