Any recommendation as a second (or third, fourth) work to discover his music? I've just heard his Third Symphony, and I know a lot of his work are quite unlike this. I'm not totally opposed to other styles (I occasionally even listen to atonal works), but it'd be nice to find out.

check out his second symphony, 'Copernican', Op. 3. it starts out brutally, but over time he gets into the territory he would go with the third. the contrast in this piece is immensely powerful.

Thanks for the recommendations. I have already listened to his second symphony (also the fourth), as well as the string quartets and the Miserere. They were all good. I will check out the other recommendations later. Thanks, guys!

To my delight I had greatly underestimated Colin Stetson's interpretation of Gorecki's 3rd symphony. It remained faithful and entirely uninterested in redundant additions or appealing to his shittier fans. There was a lot of focus on texture and the breaking points of harmony into dissonance, and certainly had no interest in remaining minimal, but it really worked for what the ensemble was trying to accomplish. I think its out on record now under the album name "Sorrow"? If its at all as good as it was live I recommend it very very highly to you all!
